MATCH REPORT - SSC VS SCC

A strong Sri Lanka Sports Club (SSC) line-up turned up for the game against VCA debutants Saigon Cricket Club (SCC) on Sunday morning. SSC Captain Sumedha Pushpakumara won the toss and opted to bat first. SCC opening bowlers did well to get SSC opener Bertram out for 3 and top order batsman Chandana for 2, Dileepa for 5 and Akila for 7 to put SSC in a precarious position of 61/4 at the 10 over drinks break.

The other SSC opener Udesh batted well for his 27 off 31 and together with Joel 17 took SSC past the 90 mark. A late charge by Janaka 23 (1x4 & 2x6) and Sumedha 25 (3x6) against some loose bowling by SCC at the death saw SSC pile up 150 All Out. On the positive side for SCC, they managed to pick up all 10 wickets with Lanh 4/18, Chuan 2/18, Mick 2/19 and Giao 2/46.

SCC started off well getting to 32 off 5 overs without losing a wicket. But quick strikes by Tharanga and Anusha put SCC under pressure at 42/3. In form SCC batsman Dang hit a 4 and a massive 6 in his 14 off 13, but was bowled by Janaka off an inside edge. SCC went to the drinks break at 49/4.

Hoang 15 and Phong 16 tried to keep the momentum going but some tight bowling by SSC made the target too far to reach. SCC Captain Mick batting down the order was bowled off an inside edge by Sumedha in the 17th over. SCC ended 96 All out off 19.1 overs with wickets for Janaka 2/7, Sumedha 2/17 and Tharanga 2/19.

The umpires decided on SCC's Lanh as the Man of the Match for his effort of 4/18. SSC win with bonus point and stay 2nd in the league table.

MATCH REPORT - UCC VS PSCC

UCC started the day off with the bat but a few early wickets from PSCC saw them struggling at 2/19.
Much needed partnerships ensued with Rajesh (10) Nitin (16*) and VCA legend Guy (15) but the standout was Rubal who “carried the bat” for UCC and remained not out on 70 (56).

Wickets to Naeem (2-19) Zaki (1-32) and Veer (1-12) kept UCC to a total of 124.

The chase did not start well as PSCC we’re reeling at 3-13 but a bit of middle order resistance from Zaki (20) and Naeem (19) helped the total along.

Vijesh (2-4) and Bala (2-4) the pick of the fast bowlers , with Rajesh (3-9) capping off the tail to give UCC their second win for the season. Winners by 51 runs.

Well done to man of the match Rubal.
